Of those, about 67,000 have head injuries, and 27,000 have a personal injury serious enough to be hospitalized. Non-helmeted riders are 14 times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than helmeted riders. [The message is clear – if your ride a bicycle wear a helmet!] In 2007, 698 bicyclists reportedly died in the United States. In a typical year, over 90 percent of cyclists killed are involved in crashes with motor vehicles. The "typical" bicyclist that is injured is not wearing a helmet, is riding on a major road between intersections and is in an urban area. Head injuries account for more than 60 percent of bicycle-related deaths, more than two-thirds of bicycle-related hospital admissions, and about one-third of hospital emergency room visits for bicycling injuries. It has been estimated that the direct and indirect annual cost of bicycle injuries is over 2 billion dollars. Approximately three-fourths of these motorcycle accidents involved collision with another vehicle. Vehicle failures accounted for about l3% of these motorcycle accidents, and most of those were single vehicle accidents where caused by a flat tire. We know that there is often an unfounded bias against motorcycle riders, so if you or a loved one needs help because of such an accident, please Contact Us.
Because we care and want you to be armed with the facts, we are providing you with further information to avoid motorcycle accidents. First, you need to know that the failure of motorists to see motorcycles in traffic is the number one cause of motorcycle accidents. Thus, make you and your cycle as visible as possible to other motorists. Second, the most frequent accident occurs when the motorcycle is preceding straight and the automobile making a left turn in front of the oncoming motorcycle. Intersections are the most likely place for the motorcycle accident, with the other vehicle violating the motorcycle right-of-way, and often violating traffic controls. Thus, beware in intersections and always watch out for left turning vehicles. Third, most motorcycle accidents occur during a short trip associated with shopping, errands, friends, entertainment, or recreation, and the accident is likely to happen a very short time after the start of the trip. Thus, be very careful at the start of even the shortest of rides. Fourth, formal motorcycle training saves lives and reduces injuries. 92% of riders involved in accidents were self-taught or learned from family or friends. Studies show that motorcycle rider training experience reduces accident involvement and is related to reduced injuries in the event of an accident. Fifth, NEVER ride impaired. Almost half of the fatal motorcycle accidents have alcohol involvement and you should NEVER DRINK & RIDE. Sixth and maybe most importantly, get good safety equipment. The use of heavy boots, jacket, gloves, etc., is effective in preventing or reducing abrasions and lacerations, which are frequent in all accidents. Further, the use of a good full face safety helmet is the most important factor in the prevention of and reduction of head and facial injuries. There is no link between neck injuries and wearing a safety helmet; helmeted riders had less neck injuries than unhelmeted riders. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET! Again, we respect your right to safely ride a motorcycle and be treated fairly by the legal system, so if you or a loved one has been involved in a motorcycle accident and you need help, please Contact Us.

Pedestrian Accidents
Every two hours, a pedestrian dies as a result of an accident involving a motor vehicle. A pedestrian is injured by a vehicle every 8 minutes. In the United States, 5,000 pedestrians die each year as a result of these accidents, and over 60,000 are injured. This is a major problem. Driver negligence is often to blame for these accidents resulting in pedestrian injury or death. Often the driver: (1) fails to yield right of way to pedestrians at crosswalks, (2) runs a stop light or stop sign or disregards other traffic control device, (3) is simply not paying attention or is focused on something else like eating, the radio, a passenger or a cell phone, or (4) is speeding. Watch out for these things as you cross streets as no pedestrian can win against a car. Statistically, children under age 16 are the most likely to be struck by a car, but elderly victims are the most likely to die as a result of pedestrian accident. Most accidents occur on the weekends and during the evening hours, so you should be especially careful during these times. Most people who are struck by a moving vehicle are injured by the force of that impact, but almost as many suffer injuries from striking the ground with force after being hit, or from impacting some unknown objects. Therefore, quick investigation and preservation of evidence is important. If you or a love one was walking and was involved in accident with a vehicle, and needs help, please Contact Us.
